Helical Gearboxes

Helical gearboxes are one of the most commonly used types of gearboxes in industrial applications. They are designed with angled teeth (helical teeth) that engage gradually and more smoothly compared to spur gears. This results in lower noise levels, less vibration, and higher load-carrying capacity. Helical gearboxes are known for their efficiency, durability, and ability to transmit power across both parallel and non-parallel shafts.

Design and Working Principle

The core feature of a helical gearbox is its helical-cut gears, which are set at an angle to the gear axis. When these gears engage, the contact between the teeth begins gradually and stays in contact longer than straight-cut (spur) gears. This design results in smoother power transmission and quieter operation. Helical gears can be used in both parallel shaft and crossed shaft configurations, making them versatile for various mechanical setups. These gearboxes are typically made of high-grade steel or cast iron and can be customized with different gear ratios and torque capacities.
